Great Start for Main Street Sweets Bakery and Café

Family and confections make for the sweetness of a bakery in Allegany

Jody Stephan mixes blueberries into a large bowl filled with muffin batter while the aroma of freshly baked pastries lingers in the air. Her black chief coat has white patches of flour and sugar on it, but she pays no attention while she mixes ingredients, helps customers and plays “Mommy” to her young son. It’s clear by the fast paced atmosphere and Stephan’s multi-tasking that  Allegany’s new bakery has received a warm welcome from the community.

Renato and Jacqueline Attard started Attard’s 36 years ago and is now run by their daughter Claudia.

“We started out in 1975 making Baklava & Pita bread and a few other Lebanese dishes. Since then, we grew to add so many more items through the years,” said Claudia.

Angee’s Restaurant located at 475 North Union St., Olean, N.Y. opened in 1948 by Libratore Angelo Fratercangelo, an Italian immigrant, and his son, Nicholos. Over 60 years later, Angee’s remains in its original location and is owned and operated by Nicholos’ youngest son, Anthony Fratercangelo.
