As a child, Randy Sprague fell in love with the production of maple syrup. “I thought it looked like fun,” Randy said, almost 40 years later. “It started out as a hobby, and it’s grown into this.”

Sprague’s Maple Farms in Portville N.Y. is now the area’s largest pancake house and restaurant as well as one of the largest maple operations in New York State.

Families travel from far and wide to enjoy breakfast served with Sprague’s 100% pure maple syrup, as well as their delicious lunches, dinners and desserts.

“We incorporate many of our products, mainly our maple syrup line, into a lot of the recipes we serve here,” Randy said.

Sprague’s is also known for their turkey dinners made from fresh, free-range turkeys, raised right in Portville. They also have one of the best Friday night fish fry in the area.

Sprague's Maple Farms offer a variety of authentic maple products and a “complete gift line of treasures” available in their gift shop. For those unable to browse the gift shop, all of their products are available at their online store.

“Sprague’s is where we always take company,” explained frequent customer Carole McNall. “You can always depend on the food being good as well as the service being good.”

In addition to their amazing food and gorgeous restaurant, Sprague’s Maple Farms also offers events, activities and educational tours.

“We can show our customers the history, traditions and the evolution of the maple industry,” Randy said.

In the middle of February, the tapping begins and runs for about 6 to 8 weeks. During this time every Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 4, Sprague’s offers to the public (for free!) wagon rides, demonstrations, maple doughnuts, maple cotton candy and more.

They also host one of the largest Easter egg hunts in the area on the Saturday before Easter. “The kids have a lot fun,” Randy said.

Randy and his wife have worked hard to make Sprague’s Maple Farms into what it is today. “We’re a team… We oversee all of the general operations but, at the same time, are both involved in all aspects of it.”

So, whether you’d like to learn about maple production or are just craving pancakes and delicious maple syrup, Sprague’s Maple Farms is indeed worth the trip.
