Rosemary K. Lyons: Phrase Phase
June 25 – July 30, 2011
Opening Reception Saturday, June 25, 2011 @ 2-4 p.m.
The Olean Public Library Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition featuring contemporary illuminated manuscripts by Buffalo-based artist Rosemary K. Lyons.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
"Although I come from a large Irish Catholic family, it is only recently that I have felt my cultural affinity. The 'Manu Scriptus' series has kept me intellectually and artistically engaged for a long time. Much like my ancestors I find great peace and purpose in my own private scriptorium."
ABOUT THE WORK:
"The 'Phrase Phase' is a subset of the 'Manu Scriptus' series. I use ancient bookmaking techniques to produce works that ask the viewer to question the status quo. I have used this platform as my own personal soap box; using beauty to seduce people into thinking. All works are gouache, ink, and goldleaf on parchment paper."
A free public opening reception will be held at the Olean Public Library Gallery on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., with an artist talk at 3:00 p.m.
The Olean Public Library Gallery’s purpose is to create a public forum for professional artists to interact with the community. The library presents a visual arts series of up to 12 group and solo exhibitions annually. The gallery has been in operation for over 30 years, and has presented the works of hundreds of artists in the Western New York and Greater Niagara region. We present an annual literature series featuring readings and discussions by professional writers.
