Another packed house, another world-class show for the Seneca Allegany Casino. This time the show featured classic rock sensations, Kansas. Did they impress? By the judge of the audience, the would be an emphatic yes!

From the first draw of the bow on Dave Ragsdale's violin to the final cymbal-crash on Phil Ehart's set, the air in the Event Center at the Seneca Allegany Hotel and Casino was charged with an electricity not conjured by many performers.

The band did play their staples, "Dust in the Wind" was about the midway point of the performance, and the night closed with "Carry On," but it was the master craftsmanship for the rest of the show that really placed the exclamation point on the performance.

As one who is only familiar with the two staples of Kansas' work, to say I was blown away with the rest of the show is an understatement. I would venture to say that these men, 38 years into their musical careers, are still performing at the top of their game.

I was lucky enough to talk to guitarist Richard Williams a few weeks back for the advance story with the show. When I asked him what the people of the Seneca Allegany Casino can expect from the show he told me, unequivocally, that the fans at the show would see a band that likes to play live music.

I would say that like is more of a love. As the fans fed energy to the musicians, the level of play increased.

Williams' mastery of his six-string, electric and acoustic, was evident in the riffs that filled the air in virtually every song. His nearly four decades of musical mastery has placed him in the pantheon of rock guitarists, bar none.

Steve Walsh's voice proved to be as strong as it did nearly 40 years ago, when the band first kicked out tunes, as did Billy Greer's. On top of that, the keys and bass were absolutely perfect for the show.

Overall, the show was another in what is becoming a long line of greats at the Seneca Allegany Casino. With the addition of Kansas to the alums of the Event Center, the musical world has opened up for all the music fans of our region.

In addition, I have to give a big kudos to the staff of the Seneca Allegany Casino Events Center that made the show possible. Security was not an overbearing force. There was an enjoyment of the show, so long as it didn't infringe on the enjoyment of others. Technical staff was on top of things as well. The camera men were producing clean, vivid hots that transitioned well throughout the show, and the sound engineers did a great job in balancing every part of the performance. For a live performance, the quality of musicianship was definitely there, and the perfect balance of sound made the show that much better.

A great show all-round.
