OK, Not having a horse in this year's Big Game, I decided to not only watch as a pseudo Packers fan, but for the commercials. I never really paid attention to them in the past. Here is a quick synopsis of what I thought were the better ones and, of course, the ones that fell short of that big hit status.

Let's start with the ones that I felt went over well, let's call this category, for the sake of ease, Good Commercials:

Chevy Silverado Lassie commercial. “Talking” truck rescues boy from well, belly of a whale, volcano, cave. Good humor on truck saving the boy. Apparently, there is nothing a Chevy truck cannot do.
Doritos feed the fish water the plant. Doritos able to raise things from the dead, they are so good; to include Grandpa. Dead fish and plant. When it's my turn to go, someone give me a bag of Doritos!Coke had a couple ads in the race, but the best one had a dragon. A bit World of Warcraft-ish, but really plays to the Coke franchise. Cute animation of a war between somewhat cute creatures. Dragon shoots fireworks and confetti after drinking a coke. How can a firework and confetti-shooting dragon NOT be a good commercial?
A Young Sith Lord tries to use the powers of the dark side to no avail. Then Dad comes home with the new VW. Young Vader goes out to try to start it with the powers of the Dark Side, and does...with a little help from Dad. Gotta love it when the DarkSide finds its power in a young boy!Best Buy multi-G commercial for the buyback program started out great. Anything with Ozzy is awesome. The greatness of this commercial disappeared when Beiber materialized. Best Buy redeemed themselves at the end with Ozzy asking “What's a Beiber?” and his son saying Beiber “looks like a girl.” More truer words...
Bridgestone Beaver. Driver swerves to miss beaver going to build a damn. Six months later, beaver saves driver's life. Just a cute concept, right down to the chest-point from the beaver.

Bad Commercials

Audi commercial with ritzy rich prison. Two break out, one escapes in an Audi, the other returned to prison in Mercedes. Although Kenny G in a doorman uniform is kind of funny.
Budweiser, Tiny Dancer. Not really sure where Tiny Dancer comes into it. Seems like a reach.
Mini Cooper...Cram it in the Boot? Really?

Best Commercial of the Night honors, in my view, have to go to Volkswagon. Not only for their resurgence of Darth Vader, but also for a Black Beetle, complete with racing stripes, speeding through the wilderness to introduce the new Beetle vehicle. Kudos have to go to VW for the effort to make a couple solid ads for their product.

While I was watching the commercials, between Steeler interceptions, I also saw trailers for a few movies that look like they will be the cream of the blockbuster crop. Here they are...
