In 2009, our Adirondack Chair Project, a collaboration between Cattaraugus County Arts Council and Allegany State Park, was a success and raised almost $3,000 to benefit arts programming over the summer at Allegany State Park. CCAC is excited to announce that we are re-launching, "Flights of Fancy: Artist re-imagine bird, butterfly and bat houses." Thanks to a generous donation of wood from Potter Lumber, more than 50 bird, butterfly and bat houses were constructed at Collins Correctional Facility and are now ready for pickup.
We are currently looking for artists to transform one of these handmade birdhouse, butterfly or bat house into a work of art. They will be very portable, and offer terrific possibilities beyond painting for their transformation. Artist can pick up the house of their choice at the Cattaraugus County Arts Council or Allegany State Park Administration House starting January 14th and the finished houses will need to be delivered back to Allegany State Park by May 15th. All bird, butterfly and bat houses will be on display over the summer at the park and they will be auctioned off at the Full Moon Family Beach Party on August 12th, 2011.
The houses can be either functional or decorative. Woodcarvers, turners are also welcome to donate any handmade houses to the event. Artists may take more than one house to transform but they may be limited based on the number of requests.
